Miami Hip-Hop Artists Get Streets Named After Them

Miami-Dade County is honoring its hip-hop history by naming Liberty City neighborhood streets after rappers like DJ Khaled, City Girls, Kodak Black, Flo Rida, Trick Daddy, and Trina.
Commissioner Keon Hardemon aims to encourage economic development in the community through this initiative and attract visitors to Miami-Dade County.
The area where the streets are being named, known as Broadway, has a rich history dating back to the 1950s with juke joints, bars, and restaurants.
The selection process for the street names considered artists’ contributions to Miami’s culture, philanthropic efforts, and Billboard chart success.
Commissioner René Garcia initially opposed the proposal due to lyrical content but later supported it, acknowledging the importance of honoring the community’s hip-hop heritage.
