UMG Says Drake Only Suing Over ‘Not Like Us’ Because He Lost Kendrick Beef
According to reports, Universal Music Group (UMG) asserts that Drake’s lawsuit over the song “Not Like Us” stemmed from bitterness after losing a rap battle with Kendrick Lamar.
UMG alleges that Drake encouraged the feud with Lamar and released additional tracks to goad Lamar into continuing the public battle.
Both Drake and Lamar released a total of 9 songs attacking each other, with Drake making incendiary claims about Lamar, including allegations of domestic abuse and paternity issues.
The company also argued that Drake’s lawsuit disregards the context of the rap battle and the conventions of the diss track genre, implying that Drake is now facing consequences for his actions.
Given the ongoing rap war between the two artists, UMG categorically denies that “Not Like Us” is defamatory and is pursuing the dismissal of Drake’s lawsuit.
