Michael Rainey Jr. won his first NAACP Image Award at the 56th annual ceremony, expressing gratitude to his parents and stating, “I’m blessed, and I’m overjoyed.”
Rainey Jr. faced tough competition in the category, competing against talents like Aldis Hodge, Donald Glover, Harold Perrineau, and Jabari Banks. Best known for his role as Tariq St. Patrick in “Power Book II: Ghost,” Rainey Jr. skillfully portrays the character’s transformation from a rebellious son to a calculating mastermind, blending vulnerability with a strategic edge.
“I’m so happy for him he NAACP is really all we got. We do bigger numbers than a lot of shows but we don’t get nominated because of diversity,” said 50 Cent about the win.
